Happy New Year to all Brethren of Delta Lodge. Our lodge has seen a great resurgence of energy and interest in the last calendar year, and with those successes now in the history books, it is up to us to continue our efforts to expand and increase those successes in this new year of 2017.
Delta Lodge participated in running Dagmar's Walk in the Park to benefit The Myositis Association on Saturday, September 19th, 2015. St. Paul's-Algonquin Lodge, before merging, was a primary sponsor and volunteer source for this great event, and Delta Lodge now carries this tradition forward. Over our Lodge's involvement with this event, we've raised over $30,000 for The Myositis Association.
Myositis means muscle inflammation, and can be caused by infection, injury, certain medicines, exercise, and chronic disease. About 40,000 people in the United States have this condition, which makes Braintree somewhat rare in that it has 2 citizens who are affected. One of these is Dagmar Slaven, for whom this event is named.
For the first time in a long time, Delta Lodge marched in the Braintree 4th of July Parade. Adding to the significance, Braintree is celebrating its 375th Anniversary this year, having been founded in 1640.
Bro. William Holleran designed and produced an excellent banner for Delta Lodge to march behind, which was carried by 2 of our newest Master Masons, Bro. Rodney Owens and Bro. Flennard Shaw. Delta Lodge led a large contingent of Shriners in this parade, much to the enjoyment of the crowd.
This will be an annual event for Delta Lodge, and all members are encouraged to mark their calendars for next year!
Delta Lodge was very busy this June. In addition to the election of officers for 2015-2016 Masonic year, there was a presentation for our newest 50 year Past Master, Wor. Donald Weber (originally Master of Atlantic Lodge), and the Master Mason Degree was performed on Brothers Flennard Shaw, Stephen Delano, Kevin O'Shea and Rodney Owens.
The lodge officers performed the first section excellently, followed by the Past Masters of Delta Lodge presenting the 'short forms', and finished with the Kilwinning Club of Boston presenting the 'long form'. Following the meeting, the traditional June Collation of Strawberry shortcake, courtesy of Wor. Blunt's daughter.
Wor. William Cullen was elected to a second year as WM, Bro. Jeff Bailey to Senior Warden, Bro. Marc Bonanno to Junior Warden, Bro. Jon Charles to Treasurer and Wor. Patrick DelVal to Secretary.
Delta Lodge held a Festive Board on Saturday, November 22, 2014. The goal was to bring members of the recently merged Delta and St. Paul's-Algonquin Lodges together for an evening of pure enjoyment to encourage the growth of brotherly love among masons who may never have met before that night.
Over 65 members attended, and enjoying seven courses of fine food, and 7 toasts of societal and masonic pillars. Along with the members who attended, was the District Deputy Grand Master for the 8th Masonic District, Right Worshipful Timothy S. McGavin. R.W. McGavin took part in the activities and presented the toast to the Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts, Most Worshipful Harvey J. Waugh, who just a month earlier, merged the two lodges into one.
Much fun was had by all, and many friendships forged. Some masons came from well over a hundred miles away to attend. Some masons had not come to a lodge event in many years. We hope to see you all again at our regular meetings whenever your cable-tow allows. This event was only the beginning.
Last Night, Delta Lodge, under it's own charter, and St. Paul's-Algonquin Lodge, under the charter of St. Paul's Lodge, merged to become Delta Lodge A.F. & A.M., under the charter of St. Paul's Lodge. This event is the culmination of many months of effort by the officers and members of both lodges.
Following the opening of both lodges, Most Worshipful Harvey John Waugh, Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts, along with many officers of the Grand Lodge and a highly distinguished suite of Masons from throughout the Commonwealth, was received by Wor. Patrick H. J. DelVal, Master of Delta Lodge and Wor. Alexander J. Nicoll, Master of St. Paul's Algonquin. After being received, M.W. Waugh assumed the East, and proceeded with the Merger Ceremony. After the ceremony was completed, M.W. Waugh called the lodge from Labor to Refreshment.
Following Refreshment, Wor. Patrick DelVal assumed the East and received Wor. Timothy S. McGavin, District Deputy Grand Master for the Eighth Masonic District, along with a suite of distinguished Masons from throughout and beyond the District. R.W. McGavin then returned the East to Wor. DelVal, who then had the Installing Masters, Marshal and Chaplain presented to the East to commence with the Installation of Officers of the New Delta Lodge, now under the charter of St. Paul's Lodge. Wor. William Cullen III became the first Worshipful Master of the new lodge, with Wor. Lance Powers installed as Senior Warden and Bro. Jeffrey Bailey installed as Junior Warden. The future of Delta Lodge looks bright, with a young and engaged officer line, and a long, friendly history of two lodges that have taken the step to become one greater, stronger, more vibrant lodge.
